Recently the Split Second Dragster, sponsored by TateOil, took part in the 31st annual Bulldog Bash in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The event, which is organised by the Hells Angles, is superbly organised and always brings in massive crowds of people who are a variety of different ages.
Arriving on the Thursday, the Split Second team used the time they had to conduct their usual safety checks, mechanical check over and a good clean before their scheduled run on the Friday afternoon. Filling up with twenty five gallons of some of our finest Kerosene, the Split second car was scheduled to take part in two runs, the first being a solo 1/4 mile run and the second being a side by side run against the Fireforce Jet Funny Car over a 1/4 drag strip. Upon completing the first run, the Team found out they had completed the 1/4 drag strip in 6.66 seconds and had reached a top speed of 238mph. However, the parachutes that the Split Second car usually use failed to open, meaning the team had lost their primary braking system, but luckily the run off area on the strip is so long that the car was able to slow down gradually before reaching the end of the strip. The side by side run against the Jet Funny car could not happen unfortunately due to rain affecting the track.
The team also made a number of other runs over the course of the weekend showing similar results to that of Friday. The Split Second team are looking at full speed flying 1/4 mile runs at Elvington in a bid to break the British Land Speed Record, but before that can happen, the team are wanting to do some trial runs at more shows up and down the country to fine tune the car before their attempt.
As always its good to hear how well the Split Second team is doing and we look forward to them making their attempt at the British Land Speed Record.
