New to Heating Oil?

Are you new to Heating Oil? Let’s look at the basics…

Heating oil is typically delivered to homes using a large tanker truck (we have a range of different sized trucks dependent on access to the property) that pumps the oil directly into the home’s oil tank. Here are the steps involved in the delivery process:

  1. Schedule the delivery: You can usually call or place an order online with your heating oil supplier to schedule a delivery. Be sure to give them enough notice so that they can plan accordingly.
  2. Prepare for delivery: Before the delivery, you should clear a path to your oil tank, move any vehicles, lock away any animals, remove any dog waste, move any breakable garden ornaments, cut back any shrubbery and ensure that the tank’s fill cap is accessible. Any icy paths should be gritted to avoid any accidents.
  3. Arrival of the truck: The delivery truck will arrive at your home and position itself as near to your oil tank as possible. The driver will pull out a long hose to pump the oil into your tank.
  4. Delivery of the oil: The driver will begin pumping the oil into your tank. You can usually hear the oil flowing through the hose and into your tank.
  5. Monitor the delivery: During the delivery, the driver will monitor the oil level in your tank to ensure that it does not overflow. They will also record the amount of oil delivered.
  6. Completion of delivery: Once the delivery is complete, the driver will disconnect the hose and replace the fill cap on your tank. They may also leave a delivery slip or invoice for you to review.
